Growing up

  • Life

Growing up as an only child, I’ve had my fair share of ‘me time’. With no siblings to annoy or be annoyed by (at least up until I was 12 when my brother Sean arrived), I was forced to make my own fun throughout my childhood. This meant imaginary friends (*cringes*), arts and crafts, attempting to learn Beyonce’s dance routines and, often times, staring vacantly at the many Jonas Brothers/High School Musical posters that adorned my bedroom walls.

What quickly became apparent during those seemingly endless days was that a) being an only child wasn’t as cool as people made it out to be, and that b) I needed to find something I was passionate about to occupy my time.

Initially it was movie making. Armed with the trusty old Windows Movie Maker, I produced (and starred in) my very own show titled GTV
(which I have trademarked/reserve the rights to, btw). Unfortunately, my career as a director/producer/actor was short-lived after I quickly realised that not only was it difficult to play all of the characters in my show, film-making just wasn’t really for me. What I did really enjoy though, was the process of piecing a story together; creating my own characters and the world in which they lived. So naturally, I started writing.

Sat in front of my chunky desktop computer, the hours that used to drag along painfully during my school holidays seemed to magically fly by. And whilst my time writing stories about vampires and werewolves has now been replaced with writing analytical essays and news articles for uni, my passion for writing remains.

I guess that’s what has led me here, sat on my couch eating popcorn (a nutritious dinner in my opinion) and writing my first blog post.

Whilst I honestly don’t know the first thing about blogging, I can guarantee a lot of rambling from me accompanied by pictures from photo shoots in my bedroom. So, hang around if you’re into that.
