Just like every other year, 2019 has flown by incredibly quickly and somehow the holiday season is upon us. New Year’s Eve plans are being finalised, people are scrambling to get Christmas presents (a.k.a me) and there’s a real sense of excitement for what 2020 and a new decade holds.
While I haven’t much time to process these busy last few months, I have had time to put together a random selection of favourites which I’ll be sure to bring into the new year.
Beauty
Watermelon Glow Pink Juice, Glow Recipe
If you are in love with the smell of watermelon as much as I am, then look no further than Glow Recipe’s heavenly-scented ‘Pink Juice’. Although my dry skin needs a lot more hydration than what this product can really offer, it works well under makeup and as a light daily moisturiser.
Hair Clips and Scrunchies
I am fully aware that, number one this trend really isn’t for everyone, and two, I am relatively late to jump on the 80s/90s hair accessory bandwagon. But, I’m here and as someone with thick long hair, I need something a little stronger than those thin lacky-bands and bobby pins to keep my mane in place. My clips and scrunchies are from Kmart and were super cheap.
Entertainment
The Spy, Netflix
If you’re into Bond films, suspenseful scenes and Borat, then I highly recommend the new Netflix miniseries, The Spy. Based on a true story, the series stars Sacha Baron Cohen who plays Eli, an Israeli spy who takes on the identity of Kamel, a confident, rich and charming buyer, to infiltrate Syria’s elite. Each episode I had to remind myself that this wasn’t just a fictional story but a thrilling representation of Eli’s real life as a spy.
Just Kids, Patti Smith
This memoir of rockstar/poet/all-round legend, Patti Smith’s early adulthood in the 70s is an honest and raw look into navigating the rollercoaster ride of youth. I’m typically a slow reader and abandon books for weeks, but I can honestly say that I flew through this. Smith writes simply and grants readers a front-row seat to her personal life which features the likes of Bob Dylan. Highly recommend!
Shot from the Street, Lizzy Hadfield
If you are into photography then please look no further than Lizzy Hadfield’s personal blog. Filled with beautifully framed, rich, full-screen photos accompanied by diary-entry style writing, this blog is a rich source of fashion/decor/life inspiration. You can find her blog here: https://www.shotfromthestreet.com/
Fine Line, Harry Styles
If I’m being honest with you, I don’t think I was ever going to dislike this album. But, it seriously surpassed my expectations. With absolute bangers like Golden, Watermelon Sugar and Adore You, for which there is a weird music video centred around a fish, this is currently my favourite album to drive to. Every song is simply amazing and that is all I have to say.
